Adult Individual Therapy

Individual therapy and counseling is the treatment of choice for a number of specific problems. These include physical, sexual or emotional abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, stress, workplace issues, grief and loss, and separation/divorce issues. Many people also come to therapy for personal growth and development.

Although individual therapy involves one person with a therapist, Breakthrough looks at your issues from a system's perspective. We all live and work with other people - our parents, partners, siblings, children, work mates, bosses, and friends. Our beliefs, feelings and behaviour are influenced by the families we were raised in, the families we now live in and by the people we work and play with.

Individual therapy allows you to explore in depth your beliefs and feelings about yourself and significant events in your life, to resolve painful experience and develop healthier beliefs and behaviour.

Sometimes, even though problems like depression, anxiety and stress involve more than one person, the other person may choose not to come for therapy. Individual counseling can still be helpful. Therapy can help you explore your situation and develop ways to respond more effectively to the problem.
