  • Fees for non-psychologists ($115.00 HST Inc.)
  • Administration Fee for student therapy ($25.00 HST Inc.) Student fee may be waived if financial issues exist.
PAYING FOR SERVICE

Private therapy and assessment services are not covered under Nova Scotia’s MSI program. Many people are covered by a supplementary health care plan through their employer. Many supplementary healthcare plans pay all or a portion of the costs of seeing a therapist. Talk to your insurance carrier or employer to see if you are eligible.

Breakthrough is a multidisciplinary practice and we strive to match your needs with the experience and skills of the various members of our clinical team. Keeping this in mind, services may be provided by a psychologist, clinical social worker, or marriage and family therapist. Some insurance companies reimburse for therapy provided by non-psychologists under the direct supervision of a psychologist. It is important to determine if your private insurance plan covers therapy by non-psychologists under the supervision of a registered psychologist. If your plan does not make this provision, please advise us so we can make sure your insurance reimbursement needs are met.

In addition to paying for treatment through your health insurance plan you may be eligible for your therapy/assessment to be paid for in part or full by additional sources such as:
  • Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) - Many companies have EAPs to help employees with emotional and other problems. You may be able to see a psychologist or other mental health specialist through your EAP. Contact your supervisor or personnel department to see if this is possible.
  • The Consumer - Clients may pay directly for psychological services. In some cases, therapy services are eligible for deduction in your yearly tax return.

PAYMENT POLICY

We accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, Interact, Cheque, or Money Order. Private pay clients are required to pay the fee at the end of each session. Receipts will be provided. We do not offer direct billing to insurance companies. Please Note: A $25.00 service charge will be added to NSF cheques. A fee of $25.00 will be charged for re-issuing lost receipts.

CHARGEABLE ACTIVITIES

In addition to therapy and assessment sessions, we bill for: phone calls and emails pertinent to therapy with a client or other relevant individuals, reports and letters, case conferences, meetings and school/home visits, and travel time. You will not be billed for chargeable activities unless you are informed prior to these activities being conducted.

LATE CANCELLATIONS AND “NO SHOWS”

Appointment times are reserved for your exclusive use and it is your responsibility to provide us with at least 24-hours' notice of cancellation, which allows us to offer the time to another client. Appointments may be cancelled by phone and if you need to leave a message, our phone system will verify the time of cancellation. Receipts for missed appointments say "Missed Appointment" as it would be fraudulent to insurers to indicate otherwise. While the usual charge for late cancellations or “no shows” is billed at the regular hourly rate, please check with your respective therapist to determine their particular policy.
