Counseling and Psychological Therapy Services
In 1990, a small group of like-minded psychologists and counselors in Halifax, Nova Scotia, began meeting together regularly to talk about establishing an independent practice in psychotherapy. The group shared an awareness of the scarcity of progressive services available to children and families and a dream of helping to fill the gap in an effective way. They shared a conviction that the needs of children and families could best be met in a supportive, creative environment. They wanted to work together as a team of dedicated, highly qualified professionals.

Helping people make the desired positive changes in their lives was a common goal shared among the team members. The team spent many hours clarifying and blending their rich supply of ideas, values, beliefs, hopes, dreams and skills. Their efforts culminated in the formation of Breakthrough.
Breakthrough, a private practice co-operative of psychologists and counselors specializing in psychotherapy, opened its doors in February 1992. Over the years, thousands of clients have benefited from the counseling and psychological therapy services offered at Breakthrough. Our services include:
